A live performed interpretation of the piece Uoon I by Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto. Timeless music that we wanted to get closer to.

"When it comes to music for piano and electronics, the album "Vrioon" by Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto is a great inspiration and reference for us. And - like a rock - it also represented an obstacle in a way. We, therefore, worked intensively on the first piece of the album, "Uoon I", to explore their sound world and to understand the subtleties of the composition. To do this I programmed a new instrument, the "Segment Assembler", to synthesize the electronic sounds in real-time."

I showed this live performance as part of an exhibition opening at the Galerie Space25 in Basel.

It contains images and fantasies of an imaginary science fiction world. For example a hallucinatory experience due to lack of oxygen - "High on emptiness" .

Or the inner life of a flapping wing - "Electromagnetic Flies".

The name of the piece is derived from the English word for "Bahnschwelle" - railway sleeper. The underlying compositional idea emerged out of a dream protocol - a method often used by the surrealists.
